Sécurité des virements renforcée dès le 9 octobre 2025 avec la Vérification du Bénéficiaire

Starting October 9, 2025, all banks within the Eurozone will adopt a new service aimed at enhancing the security of bank transfers. This initiative, known as the Verification of Payee (VoP), is part of European Regulation 2024/886. It is designed to ensure that the beneficiary’s name entered by the client matches the IBAN of the recipient’s account.

How the Verification of Payee (VoP) Works

When an individual initiates a transfer, whether instant or standard, their bank will automatically verify the details with the beneficiary’s bank. This process checks the alignment between the entered name and the IBAN in real-time. The results of the verification may fall into four categories:

  • Exact Match: The name and IBAN are identical.
  • Partial Match: The name is similar but not identical.
  • No Match: The name does not correspond to the IBAN.
  • Verification Impossible: The account does not exist or cannot be verified.

Upon receiving the verification results, customers can decide whether to correct any discrepancies or proceed with the transfer.

Benefits for Individuals

The introduction of the VoP service offers significant advantages in terms of security. It provides enhanced protection against fraud, particularly in cases of identity theft and manipulation of bank account details. Additionally, this service helps reduce input errors when adding new beneficiaries.

Even if there is a mismatch between the name and the IBAN, customers retain the freedom to proceed with the transfer, fully aware of the discrepancy.

Best Practices to Follow

  • Use full and precise names for beneficiaries (avoid vague labels like “Mum” or “Electrician”).
  • Check for mismatch alerts before finalizing a transfer.
  • Understand that this verification service is free and aims to protect customers’ funds.

Collective Efforts for Customer Awareness

In preparation for the rollout of the VoP service, banks are conducting information campaigns. These initiatives are designed to inform and assist clients in understanding and utilizing this new security measure effectively.
