Samarkand Expands Higher Education Partnership with Italy

Samarkand is enhancing its higher education partnership with Italy to create innovative educational initiatives. A recent meeting took place between Adiz Boboev, the Acting Hokim of Samarkand region, and representatives from the University of Tuscia. They discussed establishing a joint campus that will operate at the Samarkand Institute of Agro-Innovations and Research.

Significant Bilateral Collaboration

This new educational direction follows a meeting between Uzbekistan’s President and Italy’s Prime Minister, held in Samarkand on May 28-29, 2025. During this meeting, both countries identified new avenues for collaboration in science and education.

Formal Agreement and Educational Programs

An official agreement has been signed between Uzbekistan’s Ministry of Agriculture and the University of Tuscia. This agreement outlines cooperation to implement joint educational programs across two bachelor’s fields and two master’s fields:

  • Bachelor’s Programs:
    • Agronomy
    • Food Science & Technology
  • Master’s Programs:
    • Organic Agriculture

According to Adiz Boboev, these programs adhere to international standards. They are designed to equip students with advanced European expertise in agriculture.

Opportunities for Students

The collaboration will also provide students the chance to complete internships in institutions across both Italy and Uzbekistan. Graduates of these programs will earn dual diplomas recognized in both countries, enhancing their employment opportunities.

Future Educational Developments

The parties are committed to improving educational effectiveness. They plan to introduce new areas of study and implement modern digital platforms into their academic frameworks.

This partnership marks a significant step forward for Samarkand’s higher education sector, fostering international collaboration and expertise in agriculture and related fields.
