Weekend Storms Expected with First Alert in Effect for Monday and Tuesday
Augusta Prepares for Severe Weather and Potential Tropical Impacts
Cold Front Brings Scattered Showers and Possible Severe Storms
A cold front is set to move into the Augusta region this Thursday, bringing with it the possibility of scattered showers and thunderstorms that could persist through Saturday. Meteorologists are urging residents to stay alert, as some of these storms might become severe.
Forecasts anticipate the presence of widespread scattered showers and storms across the Central Savannah River Area (CSRA) going through sunset on Thursday. The primary concern for these storms includes damaging straight-line winds. Residents are advised to remain vigilant and keep an eye on weather updates.
Expect breezy conditions, with winds from the southwest sustained at 10-15 mph and potentially higher gusts. Overnight into Friday morning, a few showers and storms may linger.
Weekend Weather: Cooler Temperatures and Continued Showers
As the cold front slowly progresses eastward on Friday, the likelihood of afternoon showers and storms remains. Temperatures are expected to be cooler, with highs reaching the mid-80s.
On Saturday, a closed upper-level low positioned over the Southeast will facilitate the formation of scattered showers and storms across the region. Saturday’s high temperatures will stay in the mid-80s, similar to Friday.
Sunday’s forecast is slightly drier, although occasional isolated showers remain possible. Morning temperatures will be observed in the mid-60s, with afternoon highs still in the mid-80s.
First Alert: Potential Tropical System to Impact Augusta
Looking ahead to next week, a FIRST ALERT has been issued for Monday and Tuesday due to potential impacts from a developing tropical system, currently referred to as invest 94L. The system is likely to develop into Tropical Storm Imelda.
The projected trajectory indicates that the system may make landfall along the South Carolina coast. The exact path and strength are yet to be determined, which will significantly affect the region’s weather impacts.
If the tropical system’s track remains closer to the South Carolina coast, Augusta and surrounding areas could experience strong winds and heavy rainfall. Residents are cautioned to stay updated on weather forecasts for developments regarding the tropical system.
