My words were directed only at a few individuals in the crowd who were coughing repeatedly and disturbing the play. They were never, in any way, meant for the Chinese people.” Despite the tense moment, he managed to win the match.

Earlier this month, American tennis player Taylor Townsend faced backlash for remarks about Chinese cuisine while in Shenzhen for the Billie Jean King Cup. Townsend described her surprise and discomfort with local delicacies in a since-deleted Instagram video but later apologized, emphasizing her positive experiences in China.

This is not the first time Musetti has had to address behavior on the court. In June, he received a warning for unsportsmanlike conduct after accidentally kicking a tennis ball into a line judge during a match against Frances Tiafoe at the French Open. Musetti promptly apologized for the incident, reiterating his commitment to fair play.
