Junior Alys Pop Shines in Singles Matches

Saratoga Springs, N.Y. – The Ithaca College women’s tennis team faced top-tier competition this weekend at the ITA Northeast Regional Championships held by Skidmore College. Junior Alys Pop reached the Round of 16, marking her best performance in the regionals to date. In a captivating opening match, Pop overcame Elizabeth Ring from The College of New Jersey. Although she lost the initial set 7-6 (8-6), Pop made a strong comeback to win 6-0 and clinched the tiebreak with a 10-8 score. She continued her winning streak by defeating Sieun Lee with a striking 8-2 victory in the round of 32, but her journey ended with a close 6-2, 7-6 (10-8) defeat in her subsequent match.

Aenessa Rylski Advances to Semifinals in “B” Flight

In the “B” flight competition, Aenessa Rylski showcased remarkable talent by defeating Rachel Molloy from SUNY Geneseo with an emphatic 8-1 set. Her impressive form persisted as she edged past Kaitlyn Hardy in a tight 8-7 (7-5) showdown, earning a spot in the quarterfinals. However, Rylski’s run was halted in the semifinals by Hailey Kornbluth from the University of Rochester, ending with an 8-1 set score.

Challenging Doubles Matches for Ithaca Players

The doubles matches tested Ithaca’s teams further. Alys Pop teamed up with Sabrina Cheung but fell 8-3 to Skidmore’s Mia Rosenberg and Ellie Lake. In the “B” flight, first-year players Martina Nicora and Madeleine Sutro narrowly lost to Hailey Kornbluth and Natalie Debowski in a nail-biting 8-7 (7-5) clash.
