“This is Magnificent” – Ally McCoist Hails Liverpool Star’s Early Brilliance Against Atletico Madrid
Ally McCoist

Liverpool made an explosive start to their Champions League clash with Atletico Madrid, and Ally McCoist couldn’t hide his admiration for one moment of sheer brilliance from the Reds’ star forward.

The Merseyside giants are no strangers to late goals in the early stages of the season, but this time, they stormed out of the blocks, netting twice within the opening six minutes.

Andy Robertson got the scoring underway in somewhat fortuitous fashion, with Mo Salah’s free kick deflecting off the left-back and rolling into the net. Minutes later, Salah himself doubled Liverpool’s lead, cutting in from the right flank and executing a clever one-two with Ryan Gravenberch.

The Egyptian forward expertly slipped between two Atletico defenders before slotting the ball past Jan Oblak, putting Liverpool 2-0 up in just the sixth minute.

McCoist Praises Salah’s “Magnificent” Finish

Commentating for TNT Sports, McCoist was left in awe of Salah’s finish, remarking:

"This is magnificent. It’s all about the weight of the return pass and how Salah uses his body. Look at his strength—he positions himself between two defenders and once he’s there, you know he’s scoring. Absolutely brilliant."

A Finish Befitting a Liverpool Legend

On the night he surpassed Steven Gerrard in Liverpool’s all-time Champions League appearances, Salah scored his 51st European goal for the club in trademark style.

While some critics have questioned Salah’s early-season form—he had scored just twice in his first five matches, including a stoppage-time penalty against Burnley—he has now netted two goals in four days. His composure and strength against Atletico’s defense showcased the prime Salah fans have come to admire.

Credit is also due to Ryan Gravenberch for the perfectly timed dinked pass that set up Salah’s strike. Since returning to the lineup after missing two games in August, the Dutch midfielder has been a noticeable boost to Liverpool’s midfield.

With such a lightning-fast start, Liverpool appear ready to make a statement in this season’s Champions League campaign.
