Anisimova Withdraws from Wuhan Due to Left Calf Injury

Amanda Anisimova has announced her withdrawal from the Wuhan Open due to a left calf injury. This decision follows her recent victory at the China Open, marking her second WTA 1000 tournament win of the year. Her performance earlier in Beijing hinted at underlying issues with her physical condition.
Injury Details and Recent Performances
The World No. 4 experienced discomfort during her matches in Beijing. Just before the China Open, she underwent wisdom tooth extraction. Following her opening-round victory over Katie Boulter, she began to feel pain in her foot and calf.
Despite the pain, Anisimova managed to advance through challenging matches. She triumphed over Shuai Zhang in the third round, winning a lengthy tiebreak 13-11. However, her subsequent matches were physically demanding, with many going the distance. Notably, she delivered a strong performance against Coco Gauff in the semifinals, winning 6-1, 6-2.
Statements from Anisimova
After the China Open final, Anisimova remarked on her condition. She acknowledged the pain but described it as merely annoying and not serious. “I was just hurting all day when I was walking. I’m still having a bit of pain,” she stated. Nevertheless, she expressed confidence that the injury would not hinder her ability to compete for the remainder of the season.
