Rob Brydon was born in Baglan, Glamorgan, in May 1965 to parents Joy and Howard. His mother worked as a schoolteacher, and his father was a car dealer. Rob has a younger brother named Peter, born in 1973. He attended two private schools before enrolling at Porthcawl Comprehensive School at the age of 14, where he met Ruth Jones, his future co-star in Gavin and Stacey. Notably, they also studied alongside actress Catherine Zeta-Jones. Brydon pursued further studies at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama in Cardiff but left after a year to join Radio Wales at just 20 years old.

Rob’s career commenced at BBC Radio Wales, where he worked for six years, hosting shows and performing in comedy segments. The couple resides in Strawberry Hill and has two sons, Tom and George.
