Reports indicate that the truck in that case failed to stop in time and struck multiple vehicles.

Another accident occurred the previous day, August 26, on Autoroute 20 in St-Hyacinthe, resulting in one fatality and multiple injuries. The truck driver, Jatinder Singh, fled the scene but was apprehended after a three-day search.

Government Response to Road Safety

In light of these recent tragedies, Quebec’s Public Security Minister, Ian Lafrenière, announced new measures to enhance road safety. Enhanced monitoring will be implemented in collaboration with police services from Montreal, Ottawa, Gatineau, and Ontario. The minister emphasized the need to enforce road rules rigorously, acknowledging public concern over recent events.
