Steve Brace, representing Run 4 Wales, recently shared insights on the overwhelming popularity of the upcoming race, emphasizing that the interest has reached unprecedented levels. Following last year’s sellout, which created challenges for regular participants, the organization has implemented a ballot system to ensure fair access for all.
Growing Participation and Interest in Elite Athletes
Brace noted that over 4,000 elite athletes will participate in the weekend’s activities, showcasing the event’s significant traction. The SuperHalfs series alone has attracted interest from 120,000 individuals, which signals a remarkable shift in the event’s European presence.
Brace described the current situation as “fantastic to see,” highlighting the diverse array of participants, including world-class runners, club athletes, charities, and dedicated supporters.
Challenges in Managing Demand and Future Expansion Plans
Meeting the demands of an ever-growing interest presents challenges. Brace acknowledged that while they aim for expansion, the immediate focus is on managing this demand equitably. He explained, “The nature of the course and the modernization of the city, particularly in the bay area, complicate course planning.”
Nonetheless, there are aspirations for growth, with hopes to expand the event by 2027-28. Brace also mentioned a strategic partnership with LME London Marathon to conduct the ballot, stating their aim is to create “a good balance for everyone.”
