Max Verstappen’s Successful GT3 Debut: A New Chapter in Endurance Racing
Max Verstappen, the celebrated Dutch motorsport talent, has successfully marked his GT3 race debut with a victory at the Nurburgring Nordschleife. Teaming up with Chris Lulham, a regular in the GT World Challenge Europe Endurance Cup, Verstappen secured a win in the ninth round of the NLS (Nürburgring Langstrecken-Serie). The duo piloted a Verstappen.com and Red Bull-liveried Ferrari 296 GT3, managed by Swiss team Emil Frey Racing, to emerge victorious in a competitive field of 110 cars, including 10 from the premier SP9 category.
Excellence on the Track: Verstappen and Lulham Dominate
Starting from third on the grid, Verstappen quickly seized the lead and maintained an unwavering pace throughout the four-hour endurance event. Reflecting on their performance, Verstappen remarked, “The car was amazing during my first two stints. After Qualifying, I knew we’d perform well on a dry track. Everything went smoothly, and avoiding major mistakes was key to our success. Winning my debut race here is incredible.”
Verstappen’s Endurance Racing Strategy: Looking Ahead
As Verstappen continues to expand his racing portfolio, the four-time F1 World Champion shared his aspirations for the future. “We’re eager to compete in the 24-hour race here at the Nordschleife. Whether that happens next year is uncertain. Acquiring more experience is crucial, and we hope to participate in additional NLS races next season,” Verstappen stated.
Returning to Formula 1: Verstappen Eyes Championship Gains
While Verstappen continues to explore endurance racing, his focus returns to Formula 1 as he prepares for the Singapore Grand Prix. The Red Bull driver is determined to close the gap to McLaren’s Oscar Piastri and Lando Norris in the Drivers’ Championship standings.
