Freshman Sensation Ginevra Muratori Shines in Singles Competition
Saratoga Springs, NY – The Skidmore College women’s tennis team emerged victorious in the 2025 Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Northeast Regional Championships, held at their home court. Freshman standout Ginevra Muratori clinched the singles title, becoming Skidmore’s first ITA Regional Singles Champion since 2018. Her victory was complemented by a strong performance in doubles alongside Amelie Gonzalez.
Muratori dominated the semifinals against RPI’s Kaaviya Kannan, dropping only one game for a commanding 6-1, 6-0 win. In the championship match, Muratori outplayed NYU’s Victoria Wang with a decisive 6-4, 6-2 victory. This triumph not only secured her place in the prestigious ITA Cup tournament next month but also marked Skidmore’s return to singles glory after Risa Fukushige’s win in 2018. Throughout the tournament, Muratori faced and conquered top-seeded opponents, showcasing her incredible talent and determination.
Doubles Championship Highlights
In doubles play, the dynamic duo of Muratori and Gonzalez made a strong claim to the title. In the semifinals, they defeated NYU’s Kast and Bondarenko by an 8-5 margin. This win ensured their progression to the ITA Cup tournament. However, in the championship match against RPI’s Jaiswal and Ridenour, the pair started strong with a 3-0 lead but eventually succumbed to a resilient comeback from the Engineers, finishing with a score of 3-8.
Upcoming Matches for Skidmore Women’s Tennis
The Thoroughbreds are set to host Union in the only dual match of their fall season. The match is scheduled to begin at 6:30 PM at the McCaffery-Wagman Tennis and Wellness Center. This event promises to be an exciting showcase of talent as Skidmore continues to demonstrate its prowess on the court.
